Why look beyond Peec AI
Peec fits SEO and content teams and agencies that already rank and want a clean, fast read on AI-answer visibility, with URL-level source tracking they can act on (our Peec review; Marketer Milk, Omid Ghiam, 6 August 2025). Three real reasons a buyer looks past it. First, the price floor: Peec Starter is $95 a month for 50 prompts and lets self-serve plans track only three of the six default engines, with wider coverage costing add-ons of $35 to $165 a month and API access and SSO gated to the custom Enterprise tier (peec.ai/pricing, read 27 August 2026). Second, the evidence behind the verdict is thin: our own Peec review ships provisional because the buyer-critical read rests on a single clean independent review, and the widely repeated G2 score of 4.9 from 12 reviews is bot-blocked and uncorroborated, so we do not rely on it (our Peec review, 27 August 2026). Third, Peec gives little value to zero-brand startups, because there is nothing yet to measure (Marketer Milk, 6 August 2025). None of these makes Peec a weak product. They are the points where a different tool fits a different buyer.
1. Otterly.aiCheaper entry
The cheaper entry. Where Peec starts at $95 a month, Otterly starts at $29 a month with four AI engines included on every tier, so it is the lightest way to begin AI-search monitoring, especially for lean teams and earlier-stage brands that balk at Peec's floor.
Pricing. Lite $29/mo (15 prompts), Standard $189/mo (100 prompts), Premium $489/mo (400 prompts), Enterprise custom from about $1,000/mo. Annual billing takes 15% off. Included on every tier: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot. Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude are paid add-ons. Extra prompts cost $99 per 100. What the independent evidence says. Independent reviewers rate it the cheapest credible entry point and agree on two limits: it measures but does not fix, summed up as “it tells you what, not how” (AI Tools Bakery, 1 July 2026), and two of the most-wanted engines sit outside the base price (Marco Diversi, 12 July 2026; DIY AI, 28 July 2026). So it undercuts Peec on entry price and low-end engine breadth, but real coverage costs more than the $29 headline.

2. ProfoundEnterprise depth
The enterprise-depth option. Where Peec keeps it simple, Profound goes deepest on data, tracking up to nine answer engines on Enterprise and adding its data on what people actually ask AI, with demographics. It fits large brands and in-house teams that have the budget and the analysts to act on the depth.
Pricing. Starter $99/mo (ChatGPT only, 50 prompts), Growth $399/mo (3 engines, 100 prompts, CSV and JSON exports), Enterprise custom (up to 9 engines, API access, SSO/SAML, SOC2). Annual billing gives two months free. (tryprofound.com/pricing, read 26 August 2026).
What the independent evidence says. One in-depth independent SaaS-practitioner review scored Profound 3.1 out of 5, calling it a great tool at the wrong price point for most AI-visibility use cases outside of enterprise, and put its list price at three to four times comparable tools as of October 2025 (generatemore.ai, Lari Numminen, 28 October 2025). 3. AthenaHQAction layer
The action layer. Peec measures and reports; AthenaHQ adds a content-optimization agent with on-page and off-page recommendations, so it tells you what to do next rather than only what is happening. The trade is a higher floor: $295 a month against Peec's $95, with a one-time free grant rather than a standing free plan.
Pricing. Free (one-time 300-credit grant, about a $25 credit value), Starter $295/mo ($245/mo billed annually, 17% off; 3,600 credits, up to 10 tracked models), Enterprise custom. One credit equals one AI response. (athenahq.ai/pricing, read 26 August 2026).
What the independent evidence says. The one in-depth independent hands-on test rated it 4 out of 5, praising the best-in-class card-free onboarding and a real action layer that most rivals lack, held back by the $295 price floor with no middle tier (OrganiKPI, Daniel Shashko, 27 June 2026). One disclosure to weigh: Shashko publishes a competing free open-source GEO/AEO tracker of his own, so we treat only his general hands-on assessment of AthenaHQ as evidence and exclude any head-to-head between his own tool and AthenaHQ. 4. Scrunch AISitecore stack
The Sitecore-stack fit. Scrunch is now a Sitecore company after an acquisition announced on 3 June 2026, so its clearest case is mid-market and enterprise teams, especially existing Sitecore customers, who want AI-search tracking that feeds their content and marketing stack. It sells self-serve like Peec, with public $300 and $500 tiers, but the standalone plan now sits under Sitecore.
Pricing. Starter $300/mo ($250/mo billed annually), Growth $500/mo ($417/mo billed annually), Enterprise custom. Annual billing is about 17% off, with a 7-day free trial. Tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot. (scrunch.com/pricing, read 26 August 2026).
What the independent evidence says. Almost no independent hands-on review of Scrunch exists. The one independent critique flags that its Agent Experience Platform, which serves a separate machine-readable version of a site to AI agents, revives old cloaking and search-guideline questions (Greg Kihlstrom, The Agile Brand Guide, 4 June 2026). The reported acquisition figure of about $225 million comes from Bloomberg and is unconfirmed by Sitecore, and the standalone pricing may change under Sitecore. An adjacent option, not a like-for-like tracker: Writesonic
Writesonic is worth naming, but not as a like-for-like tracker. It is a content-first GEO writing tool, an AI article writer with SEO and generative engine optimization features, that now bundles a maturing AI-visibility suite, which puts it in a different sub-category from the pure trackers above. Our conflict-free anchor review calls the visibility suite the most interesting part of the product but still maturing, and says the platform can feel spread too thin (reviewmytools, 7 May 2026). On coverage its self-serve plans track three AI platforms (ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews) and Enterprise tracks all ten, comparable to Peec and Otterly, so the suite is real, just younger. The AI-search visibility category is wider than the tools we have reviewed. Names that come up honestly in this space, and that we have not yet put through our own review, include Trakkr, ZipTie, Rankscale, Knowatoa, Goodie AI and the Semrush AI Toolkit, along with Ahrefs Brand Radar, SE Ranking, Nightwatch and others. We name them so you know they exist and are on our roadmap. We do not rank or score them here, because we have not put them through our own review and cannot back a recommendation with our own evidence. When we review one in depth, it becomes eligible to be ranked on a page like this.
How we researched this
This is a meta-review. Stack Merit does not test tools hands-on, and we did not test any tool here. We ranked only the AI-search visibility trackers we have already reviewed in depth (Otterly.ai, Profound, AthenaHQ and Scrunch AI), each linked to its live review, and named Writesonic as an adjacent content-first option rather than a like-for-like tracker. We pinned every price to the vendor's own live pricing page and dated each reading, and traced each tool's fit against Peec to independent evidence, not marketing copy. For Profound, AthenaHQ and Scrunch the buyer-critical verdict currently rests on limited independent qualitative sourcing, so those reviews carry a provisional marker and we revisit each when a second independent review appears; Otterly is not provisional.
For the blind ranking test, on 27 August 2026 we re-pulled the live top results for "peec ai alternatives" and "peec alternatives". We dropped every page published by a vendor that sells a competing AI-search, AEO, GEO or SEO tool, or that ranks its own such tool first, and we name each: airops.com (the current top organic result, which ranks its own AirOps tool first), aipeekaboo.com (authored by its own CEO, which ranks itself first), writesonic.com (a rival that is also on our own shortlist), ziptie.dev, radarkit.ai, tryanalyze.ai and geoptie.com (rival trackers), blog.hubspot.com (promotes its own HubSpot AEO tool), and blog.timsoulo.com (authored by Ahrefs CMO Tim Soulo, which ranks Ahrefs Brand Radar first). Two genuinely independent pages remained, and we ranked this page against both, branding stripped: the G2 alternatives directory (an auto-generated, bot-blocked list with no dated pricing, fit reasoning or methodology) and layer3labs.io (a consulting agency's desk-research overview whose outbound links carry no tracking or affiliate parameters and which sells consulting, not a competing tracker). Ours ranks first against both, for four reasons neither provides: it points only to tools we can back with our own in-depth reviews, it pins dated live pricing to each vendor's own page, it gives a fit-vs-Peec reason traced to independent evidence, and it marks provisional verdicts honestly.
