The verdict

Profound

7.8/ 10

Provisional

Provisional, and thinner than we would like. The only in-depth review we found is from generatemore.ai (Lari Numminen), an agency that sells competing AEO services, so under our conflict rule we disclose that and exclude its comparative price and fit claims, which is what its verdict rested on. That leaves no clean independent price-value judgment yet. The pricing here is from Profound's own page and the scale and funding from Fortune; we will revisit the verdict when a conflict-free in-depth review appears.

The deepest AI search visibility data in the category, built and priced for enterprise. We have not yet found a conflict-free independent review to judge whether the price is worth it.

  • Data quality8.8

The deepest AI-visibility data in the category, with Prompt Volumes reporting what people actually ask across up to nine engines.

  • Feature depth8.6

Nine engines, API, SSO/SAML and SOC2, all gated to the Enterprise tier.

  • Usability7.2

An enterprise tool that assumes real budget and an analytics-capable team.

  • Value6.0

Starter tracks ChatGPT only; real multi-engine tracking starts at $399, and Enterprise is sales-quoted and opaque.

  • Support7.5

Email support on lower tiers, with a dedicated Slack channel and 24-hour SLA on Enterprise.

Best for

Enterprise brands and in-house AEO, PR or content teams that need to track how they show up across many answer engines, and that have the budget and the analysts to act on the data.

Profound is the enterprise heavyweight of AI search visibility, priced like one. Paid plans start at $99 a month for Starter, which tracks ChatGPT only, jump to $399 for Growth, and go custom at Enterprise (tryprofound.com/pricing, 26 August 2026). The data depth and the enterprise traction are well evidenced. The one thing we cannot give you yet is a clean independent read on whether the price is worth it, and this review is honest about why.

Profound pricing: what it costs in 2026

Read from tryprofound.com/pricing on 26 August 2026. Annual billing gives 2 months free. Enterprise is quoted by sales.

The entry plan is where the ceiling shows. Starter at $99 tracks ChatGPT only and 50 prompts, so real multi-engine tracking begins at $399 Growth or a custom Enterprise quote. Growth adds Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, CSV and JSON exports and three seats, but the API stays behind Enterprise, along with SSO, SOC2 and multi-company tracking.

Strengths

  • Fortune reports more than 700 enterprise customers, including Target, Walmart and MongoDB, a sign of real enterprise traction (Fortune, 24 Feb 2026)
  • The Enterprise tier tracks up to 9 answer engines, spanning ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek, Claude, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews (tryprofound.com/pricing, 26 Aug 2026)
  • Prompt Volumes reports what people actually ask AI answer engines, with demographic breakdowns, rather than only tracking prompts you enter yourself (tryprofound.com/pricing, 26 Aug 2026)
  • Sentiment analysis and competitor benchmarking are built in, and Growth and above include CSV and JSON exports; Enterprise adds API access, SSO/SAML and SOC2 (tryprofound.com/pricing, 26 Aug 2026)
  • Well funded and scaling fast: a $96M Series C at a $1B valuation, $155M raised in total (Fortune, 24 Feb 2026), which lowers vendor risk

Watch-outs

  • Starter at $99 tracks ChatGPT only and just 50 prompts, so real multi-engine tracking starts at $399 Growth or a custom Enterprise quote (tryprofound.com/pricing, 26 Aug 2026)
  • No public API below Enterprise, and Growth caps you at 100 tracked prompts and 3 seats (tryprofound.com/pricing, 26 Aug 2026)
  • Enterprise is quoted by sales, not published, so the real cost of multi-engine tracking at scale is opaque until you request a quote (tryprofound.com/pricing, 26 Aug 2026)
  • This is enterprise software: the pricing, the sales-quoted top tier and the depth of the data assume real budget and an analytics-capable team
  • We have not found a conflict-free independent review to weigh price against value; the one in-depth review is from a conflicted AEO agency whose price comparison we exclude (see the sourcing note below)

What Profound is

Profound is an answer engine optimization (AEO) and generative engine optimization (GEO) platform. It tracks how often, and how, a brand shows up when people ask AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google AI Overviews, then gives you tools to improve that visibility.

Co-founded in 2024 by James Cadwallader and Dylan Babbs, it came out of stealth with a $3.5 million seed round (TechCrunch, 13 August 2024) and has raised quickly since: a $20 million Series A in June 2025, a $35 million Series B led by Sequoia in August 2025, and a $96 million Series C led by Lightspeed in February 2026 at a $1 billion valuation, $155 million total (Fortune, 24 February 2026). Fortune reports more than 700 enterprise customers, including Target, Walmart, Ramp, MongoDB, US Bank and Figma.

The core modules are Answer Engine Insights (brand mention and citation tracking), Prompt Volumes (what people actually ask AI, with demographics), Agents (content workers), and Agent Analytics (which AI crawlers hit your site).

What it is good at

On the evidence we can stand behind, Profound's case is depth and enterprise reach. The modules above go beyond tracking your own prompts: Prompt Volumes reports real query demand with demographic breakdowns, and Agent Analytics shows which AI crawlers hit your site (tryprofound.com, 26 August 2026). The enterprise traction is corroborated by independent press, with Fortune reporting more than 700 enterprise customers and a $1 billion valuation (24 February 2026). One enterprise reference on Profound's own pricing page, Statsig's marketing lead, says they chose it because it "seemed like the deepest and most complete tool in the market", though that testimonial sits on the vendor's site, not an independent one.

The one in-depth outside review, from generatemore.ai (Lari Numminen, 28 October 2025), is an agency that sells competing AEO services, so we treat it as a conflicted source: we note its general product observations and exclude its comparative price and fit claims. Its usable, non-comparative observation is a fit one: it rated accuracy higher for major retailers with CDN infrastructure than for smaller SaaS companies, because Profound leans on CDN integrations to attribute AI traffic. Read that as a fit question for your own setup, from a source whose conflict we disclose, rather than as an independent verdict.

Where it frustrates

The clearest frustrations are in the pricing structure, and these are facts from Profound's own page. Starter at $99 tracks ChatGPT only and 50 prompts, so genuine multi-engine tracking means $399 Growth or a custom Enterprise quote; the public API, SSO, SOC2 and multi-company tracking all sit behind Enterprise; and the Enterprise price itself is quoted by sales rather than published, so the real cost at scale is opaque until you ask (tryprofound.com/pricing, 26 August 2026). Taken together, this is enterprise software that assumes real budget and an analytics-capable team.

The honest gap is the one we cannot fill yet: whether that price is justified against the value. The only in-depth outside review argued it was not for non-enterprise buyers, but that reviewer sells competing AEO services and we exclude their comparative price claim on principle, so we are not passing it on as a verdict. Until a conflict-free in-depth review appears, treat the price-value question as open, and price the plan against your own needs.

Who should buy it

Buy Profound if you are an enterprise brand, or an in-house AEO, PR or content team, that needs to see brand mentions across many answer engines and has both the budget and the analysts to act on the data. At Enterprise, with up to 9 engines, API access and SOC2, its ceiling is high and its enterprise traction is independently corroborated.

Think harder if you are a solo founder or a small team. On Profound's own pricing, the entry plan tracks ChatGPT only and real multi-engine tracking starts at $399 a month, which is a lot to commit before you know the payoff, so it is worth comparing lighter tools. That is our read from the pricing, not an independent verdict on value. Sourcing: what we could and could not verify

This section is deliberately plain about the evidence. The facts, which we can stand behind, come from Profound's own pricing page (plans, engines and limits) and from independent primary press: TechCrunch on the 2024 stealth launch and seed, Adweek on the Series B, and Fortune on the $96 million Series C, the $1 billion valuation and the 700-plus enterprise customers. Public user-review volume is almost nil: Trustpilot carries a single verified user review, a 5-star note reading "Profound is good for insights and some recommendations" (22 March 2026), and G2's rating could not be verified at source.

The one in-depth outside review is by Lari Numminen on generatemore.ai (28 October 2025). We inspected the source: generatemore.ai runs Generate More, a business that sells AEO and AI-search optimization services, and the article routes readers to its own audit and services, so it is a conflicted source, not an independent one. Under our conflict rule we disclose that, use only its general non-comparative observations, and exclude its comparative claims, which included a specific price comparison and a buy-or-skip recommendation by company type. Because the earlier version of this review rested its price-and-fit verdict on exactly those excluded claims, we have withdrawn that verdict rather than pass on a conflicted source's comparison as if it were independent. No second, conflict-free in-depth review has been published yet; when one appears we will restore a value verdict on that basis.

How we researched this

This is a meta-review. Stack Merit does not test tools first-hand; we research what independent and primary sources report, then issue a verdict from that evidence. A source counts as independent only after we inspect it for a competing product, tracked outbound links, and a disclosure page, and here that inspection is what reclassified generatemore.ai as conflicted. We excluded write-ups published by rival AI-search and AEO tools, and we did not rely on G2 because its figures could not be verified at source. You can read the full methodology and who writes these on our about page.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Profound cost?

Profound Starter is $99 a month, Growth is $399 a month, and Enterprise is custom, quoted by sales. Annual billing gives two months free. Read from tryprofound.com/pricing on 26 August 2026.

Does Profound have a free trial?

The pricing page shows a try-for-free option on the Growth plan and immediate signup on Starter, while Enterprise requires a demo. The exact length or limits of any free trial are not spelled out on the pricing page, so confirm terms at signup.

Which AI engines does Profound track?

It depends on the plan. Starter tracks ChatGPT only. Growth tracks three engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. Enterprise tracks up to nine, adding Gemini, Google AI Mode, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Anthropic Claude (tryprofound.com/pricing, 26 August 2026).

Is Profound worth it for a small business or agency?

It is built and priced for enterprise: Starter tracks ChatGPT only, and real multi-engine tracking starts at $399 (Growth) or a custom Enterprise quote (tryprofound.com/pricing, 26 August 2026). We do not yet have a conflict-free independent review to judge whether it is worth the price for a smaller team; the one in-depth review we found is from a conflicted AEO agency, so we exclude its price comparison. Profound does sell a separate agency plan.

Is Profound a real, funded company?

Yes. It came out of stealth in 2024 with a $3.5 million seed (TechCrunch, 13 August 2024), then raised a $20 million Series A, a $35 million Series B led by Sequoia, and a $96 million Series C led by Lightspeed at a $1 billion valuation, $155 million total (Fortune, 24 February 2026). Fortune reports more than 700 enterprise customers.

What is Prompt Volumes?

Prompt Volumes is Profound's own module reporting what people actually ask AI answer engines, with demographic breakdowns, so it shows real query demand rather than only tracking the prompts you enter yourself (tryprofound.com/pricing, 26 August 2026).
