Score reflects our editorial assessment on a fixed rubric, drawn from research rather than first-hand testing.
SE Ranking costs $129 a month, or $103.20 billed annually. That is 12 percent under Semrush's entry plan, not a fraction of it, and the cheap plans that built its budget reputation were retired in October 2024. What you get for the money is capacity: 2,000 daily tracked keywords against Semrush's 500. What you should read first is the refund policy.

Four things sit outside the plans as paid add-ons: AI Search at $71.20 a month for 200 prompts, the Agency Pack at $69 a month for white labelling and 30 client seats, extra API capacity at $45 a month for 3 million credits, and a standalone API plan from $179 a month. The trial is 14 days and needs no card.
The comparison that reframes it
Set Core against Semrush's entry plan and the picture inverts from the one most reviews describe.
SE Ranking Core is $103.20 a month annually against Semrush's $117.33. For 12 percent less you get 2,000 daily tracked keywords instead of 500, and 10 projects instead of 5. Seats are the sharper difference: SE Ranking charges from $16 a month for an extra user, Semrush from $45. A four-person team runs $177 a month on SE Ranking against $274.95 on Semrush, so roughly 36 percent less.
What Semrush has that SE Ranking does not is breadth across content, PPC and market research. If rank tracking at volume is the job, SE Ranking gives you considerably more of it for less. If you need the whole toolkit under one login, that is the case for paying Semrush. Our SE Ranking against Semrush, tier by tier runs the full comparison.
Strengths
- 2,000 daily tracked keywords on the entry plan, four times Semrush's
- Backlink data from SE Ranking's own crawler, not licensed from a third party
- Additional seats from $16 a month, well under the category norm
- 14-day trial with no card required
- Uniform 20 percent annual discount rather than one that shrinks on cheaper tiers
Watch-outs
- No refunds. Paid but unused funds are not returned outside specific exceptions
- Keyword allowance is consumed per search engine and location combination, not per keyword
- Full AI search tracking is a $71.20 a month add-on, not included
- Keyword volume comes from Google Keyword Planner, so some terms return zero
- The cheap legacy plans are gone, and entry is now $129 a month
What it does well
The backlink index is the part worth paying attention to. SE Ranking runs its own crawler rather than licensing data, reporting 6 billion pages crawled daily and 58 percent of backlinks refreshed every 90 days, with a documented bot. That puts it in a different category from tools that resell a third-party index, and it is the clearest reason to pick it over a cheaper bundle where backlink research matters.
Rank tracking is the other. Daily updates on every tier, 2,000 keywords on Core and 5,000 on Growth, against 500 and 1,500 at the equivalent Semrush tiers. For an agency tracking many clients across many terms, that ratio is the whole argument.
Website audit capacity is generous too, at 250,000 pages per account on Core and 2 million on Growth, which is well beyond what most sites will use.
What catches people out
The keyword counting rule is the one to understand before you buy. Your allowance is consumed per combination of keyword and target, where a target is a search engine plus a country or region plus a language. Track one term on Google and Bing and that is two keywords. Track it across two cities and that is two. So 2,000 sounds enormous and shrinks quickly for local SEO or multi-engine work. Run the arithmetic on your actual setup before assuming the headline number covers it.
The refund position is stricter than the category norm. SE Ranking's terms state that paid but unused funds are not refunded, outside cases of poor service or specific promotions. There is no money-back window at all. The 14-day trial is your entire evaluation period, so use it properly.
AI search is split in a way the pricing table does not make obvious. Core and Growth include prompt tracking at 100 and 250 a day, plus AI Overviews coverage and AI competitor research. Tracking across ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Mode, along with the brand monitoring, needs the AI Search add-on at $71.20 a month. Worth knowing if AI visibility is why you are looking, because it moves Core from $103.20 to $174.40 a month.
One data-source note. Keyword volume is based on Google Keyword Planner, which SE Ranking states directly, and a keyword can return zero when Keyword Planner gives no value. That is a different model from tools blending clickstream data, and it matters for long-tail research where Keyword Planner is thin.
Who should buy it
Buy SE Ranking if you track a lot of keywords across a lot of projects, want first-party backlink data, and are adding seats to a team. The per-seat cost and the tracking ratios are where it wins, and they compound the bigger your setup gets.
Skip it if you are a solo operator on a small site. At $103.20 a month you are paying for capacity you will not use, and our Mangools review covers the genuinely cheap end. Skip it too if you need breadth over depth, where our Semrush review makes that case, and if you are shopping the middle ground our Semrush alternatives guide and ranked guide to the best SEO tools put the options side by side. Weighed against Moz specifically, our SE Ranking against Moz sets tracking capacity against Domain Authority.
How we score these reviews
We score every SEO tool on the same five-part rubric: data quality, feature depth, usability, value and support. This review is research-based, drawing on SE Ranking's own published pricing, documentation and terms rather than first-hand testing, so the score stays gated as in testing until a verified trial backs it. Prices were read from seranking.com on 27 July 2026. You can read the full methodology on our about page.
Frequently asked questions
How much does SE Ranking cost?
SE Ranking has two published plans plus a custom Enterprise tier. Core is $129 a month, or $103.20 a month billed annually. Growth is $279 a month, or $223.20 a month billed annually. Annual billing saves a uniform 20 percent on both. There is a 14-day trial that needs no card, and several features including full AI search tracking, white labelling and extra API capacity are paid add-ons on top of the base plan.
What happened to SE Ranking's Essential, Pro and Business plans?
They were retired in October 2024 and are no longer sold. SE Ranking now lists Core, Growth and a custom Enterprise tier, with entry pricing at $129 a month or $103.20 billed annually. Comparisons still quoting Essential or Pro pricing are describing plans that have not been available for well over a year.
Is SE Ranking cheaper than Semrush?
Modestly, and it depends what you are counting. SE Ranking Core is $103.20 a month billed annually against $117.33 for Semrush's entry plan, so 12 percent less. The capacity gap is wider than the price gap: Core includes 2,000 daily tracked keywords and 10 projects, against 500 keywords and 5 projects on the Semrush plan. Additional seats also cost from $16 a month on SE Ranking against from $45 on Semrush.
Does SE Ranking offer a refund?
No. SE Ranking's terms state that paid but unused funds are not refunded, except in cases of poor service or where a specific promotion says otherwise. There is no money-back guarantee window. The 14-day free trial, which needs no card, is the evaluation period.
Where does SE Ranking get its backlink data?
From its own crawler rather than a licensed third-party index. SE Ranking reports 6 billion pages crawled daily and 58 percent of backlinks refreshed every 90 days, and documents its own crawler bot. Backlink API access is included on Growth but not on Core.
Does SE Ranking track AI search results?
Partly on the base plans and fully as a paid add-on. Core and Growth include daily AI prompt tracking at 100 and 250 respectively, plus AI Overviews coverage and AI competitor research. Tracking across ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Mode, together with brand monitoring, requires the AI Search add-on at $71.20 a month.
