It is a lightweight monitor: independent reviewers rate it the best entry price in the category and agree it measures where your brand appears without telling you how to fix it. If you are here, you are probably weighing whether something even cheaper, deeper, more action-oriented, or tied into a stack you already run would serve you better. Why look beyond Otterly.ai
Otterly is not a weak product. Independent reviewers rate it the cheapest credible entry into AI-search monitoring (AI Tools Bakery, 1 July 2026). These are simply the points where a different tool fits a different buyer better.
First, the add-ons. Only four engines are included on every tier, and Claude, Gemini and Google AI Mode are paid extras, while the $29 Lite tier has just 15 prompts, so real coverage costs more than the headline (otterly.ai/pricing, read 28 August 2026; Marco Diversi, 12 July 2026).
Second, it measures but does not fix. Independent reviewers sum it up as it tells you what, not how (AI Tools Bakery, 1 July 2026), so teams that want recommendations or a real action layer look to tools like AthenaHQ or Gauge.
Third, the depth ceiling. Otterly does not attempt the data depth of our Profound review subject or the URL-level source tracking of Peec, so teams that outgrow entry-level monitoring move up. None of this makes Otterly a weak product; these are the points where a different tool fits a different buyer.
1. RankscaleEven cheaper, more engines · synthesis
Even cheaper, with more engines. Otterly is the cheapest of the mainstream trackers at $29; Rankscale undercuts it at $20 a month and tracks the widest set of engines here, more than 17. For a price-sensitive team that wants Otterly's entry-level footing but broader engine coverage for less, it is the most direct alternative, though it is credit-based and monitoring-first, like Otterly.

What the evidence says. We have not reviewed Rankscale in depth; this entry draws on an independent comparison publisher and a fetchable review aggregator. Superframeworks calls it the most affordable serious entry in the GEO category and the widest on engine coverage, with strong citation and sentiment analysis, but monitoring-first, and warns credit costs climb quickly as you add engines (Superframeworks, updated 23 February 2026). OMR Reviews carries independent user ratings and feature detail corroborating the credit-based model (OMR Reviews, read 27 August 2026).

2. Peec AIStep up in depth · our review
The step up in depth. Where Otterly keeps it to the cheapest credible monitoring, Peec is a well-funded daily tracker at $95 a month with URL-level source tracking that shows exactly which pages cite your brand, more than Otterly's lightweight view. It fits teams that have outgrown Otterly's entry tier and want a cleaner, deeper daily read.
Pricing. Starter $95/mo ($80/mo billed annually, 50 prompts), Pro $245/mo ($205/mo annually, 150 prompts), Advanced $495/mo ($420/mo annually, 350 prompts), Enterprise custom. Prices in USD, 15% annual discount. Self-serve plans include three of the six default engines; wider coverage costs add-ons of $35 to $165 a month. API access and SSO are gated to Enterprise. What the evidence says. The one clean independent Peec review is positive on the fast-to-read dashboard and the URL-level Sources feature that shows exactly which pages cite your brand, and warns that a brand with zero recognition will get little value because there is nothing yet to measure (Marketer Milk, Omid Ghiam, 6 August 2025). Primary press confirms a $21M (EUR18M) Series A led by Singular and more than 1,300 customers, which lowers vendor risk (TechCrunch, 17 November 2025; EU-Startups, 18 November 2025).
Provisional. That buyer-critical read rests on a single clean independent source; the widely repeated G2 score of 4.9 is bot-blocked and uncorroborated, so we do not rely on it. We clear this when a second in-depth independent review appears.

3. ProfoundEnterprise depth · our review
The enterprise-depth option. Otterly is the lightest way in; Profound goes deepest on data, tracking up to nine answer engines on Enterprise and adding its own view of what people actually ask AI. It fits large brands and analyst teams, a different league from Otterly's lean entry point.
Pricing. Starter $99/mo (ChatGPT only, 50 prompts), Growth $399/mo (3 engines, 100 prompts, CSV and JSON exports), Enterprise custom (up to 9 engines, API access, SSO/SAML, SOC2). Annual billing gives two months free. (tryprofound.com/pricing, read 27 August 2026).
What the evidence says. Profound goes deepest on data, with independently corroborated enterprise scale: primary press reports a $96 million Series C at roughly a $1 billion valuation and more than 700 enterprise customers including Target, Walmart and MongoDB (Fortune, 24 February 2026). On price against value there is no conflict-free independent verdict yet: the one in-depth outside review is from generatemore.ai, an agency that sells competing AEO services, so under our conflict rule we disclose that and exclude its price and fit comparison. Priced for enterprise, on Profound's own page: Starter tracks ChatGPT only, and real multi-engine tracking starts at $399 a month.

4. AthenaHQAction layer · our review
The action layer. Otterly measures but, in reviewers' words, tells you what, not how; AthenaHQ adds a content optimization agent that recommends on-page and off-page fixes, so it points at what to do next. The trade is a much higher floor, about $295 a month against Otterly's $29, with a one-time free credit grant rather than a standing free plan.
Pricing. Free Essential (300 credits, about a $25 credit value; five engines), Starter $295/mo (about $245/mo billed annually, 17% off; 3,600 credits, up to 10 models including Claude, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI), Enterprise custom. What the evidence says. The one in-depth independent hands-on test rated it 4 out of 5, praising best-in-class card-free onboarding and a real action layer that most trackers lack, held back by the $295 price floor with no middle tier (OrganiKPI, Daniel Shashko, 27 June 2026). One disclosure a reader should weigh: Shashko publishes a competing free open-source GEO tracker of his own, so we rely only on his general hands-on assessment of AthenaHQ and exclude any head-to-head between his own tool and AthenaHQ.

5. Semrush AI ToolkitNo new tool · synthesis
The no-new-tool option. If your team already pays for Semrush, AI visibility tracking is built into the plan, so you add AI answers to your existing reports rather than buying and learning a separate monitor like Otterly. It fits SEO teams adding AI visibility, though its AI depth trails category-native trackers.
Pricing. Core plans start at about $117/mo on the entry SEO tier (billed annually) and rise to about $456/mo on Advanced; AI visibility tracking of custom prompts across Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini is built into the Starter tier and above. Semrush restructured its plans in 2026; independent roundups earlier in the year described AI visibility as a separate add-on at about $99/mo on top of a base subscription, so figures in older lists predate this change. What the evidence says. We have not reviewed the Semrush AI Toolkit in depth; this entry draws on two independent comparison publishers. Superframeworks places Semrush as the natural pick for teams already inside it, AI tracking added to the workflow they already run with no new dashboard to learn (Superframeworks, updated 23 February 2026). A 20-tool independent roundup lists Semrush in the field but ranks purpose-built trackers ahead of it for pure AI-visibility work (Stack Insight, read 27 August 2026). The consistent caveat is that AI depth trails category-native tools.

6. Scrunch AISitecore stack · our review
The enterprise and Sitecore-stack option. Now a Sitecore company, Scrunch fits mid-market and enterprise teams, especially existing Sitecore customers, who want AI-search tracking wired into their content and marketing stack, well above Otterly's lean entry positioning. Public plans sit at $250 and $417 a month billed annually, but the standalone product now sits under Sitecore.
Pricing. Starter $300/mo ($250/mo billed annually), Growth $500/mo ($417/mo billed annually), Enterprise custom. Annual billing saves 17%, with a 7-day free trial. Tracks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews, and Meta. (scrunch.com/pricing, read 27 August 2026).
What the evidence says. Scrunch is now a Sitecore company after an acquisition announced on 3 June 2026 (CMSWire, 3 June 2026). Independent hands-on review is scarce; the one independent critique flags that its Agent Experience approach, serving a separate machine-readable version of a site to AI agents, revives old cloaking and search-guideline questions (The Agile Brand Guide, Greg Kihlstrom, 4 June 2026). The reported acquisition figure of about $225 million comes via Bloomberg and is unconfirmed by Sitecore, and standalone pricing may change under Sitecore.

7. Ahrefs Brand RadarAhrefs teams · synthesis
The research-heavy option for Ahrefs teams. Brand Radar layers AI mentions, citations and share of voice onto Ahrefs' very large prompt and backlink data, for teams doing large-scale competitor and market research rather than Otterly's simple monitoring. It is an add-on on top of a paid Ahrefs plan, so the all-in cost is well above Otterly.
Pricing. Requires an active Ahrefs base plan (Lite $129/mo, Standard $249/mo, Advanced $449/mo, Enterprise $1,499/mo, annual). Brand Radar AI is a standalone add-on from about $199/mo, researching any brand across a 475M-plus organic-prompt database and tracking your own prompts; custom prompt-tracking packages add about $50/mo (2,500 checks), $100/mo (7,000) or $250/mo (25,000). Currency geo-varies. (ahrefs.com/pricing, read 27 August 2026).
What the evidence says. We have not reviewed Ahrefs Brand Radar in depth, and no genuinely independent in-depth hands-on review of it exists that we could find: the review field is saturated by competing vendors, by Ahrefs itself, and by monetised affiliate sites. So this entry draws on two named independent roundups that place it in the field, both framing it as a benchmarking and competitive-insight play rather than a pure daily monitor: Zapier lists it for benchmarking brand performance (10 November 2025) and Olostep ranks it among the core field (15 August 2026). The draw is the size of the prompt database and the competitive angle for teams already inside Ahrefs; the catch is that full Brand Radar AI is a roughly $199/mo add-on on top of a paid plan. The one in-depth review we did find, from EWR Digital, is an agency that itself sells competing AEO and GEO services, so under our conflict rule we disclose that and exclude it.

AI visibility beside classic SEO. SE Ranking bolts AI answer tracking onto a full SEO suite for in-house teams and smaller agencies that want rankings, audits, reporting and AI visibility behind one login, rather than a standalone monitor like Otterly. The AI piece is an add-on and the product line is split confusingly, so price the exact combination you need.
Pricing. Platform Core $129/mo, Growth $279/mo, Enterprise custom; the AI Search add-on is $89/mo (about $71/mo billed annually), so AI visibility tracking is realistically $218/mo or more once added to a base plan. We have not reviewed SE Ranking in depth; this entry draws on two reader-supported affiliate publishers whose head-to-head rankings we set aside, using only their factual assessments. They describe an AI visibility layer inside a full SEO suite that tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and Gemini next to classic rank tracking, best for in-house SEO teams and small to mid-size agencies, and warn the attractive headline price climbs once AI Search, agency, seat and API add-ons stack up, and that the line is split confusingly between an add-on and a separate SE Visible platform (DIY AI, Steven Jones, 13 July 2026; The Answer Engine Report, 5 May 2026).

Consider it if you want to write and fix content for AI search and keep a visibility view in one place; if you only want cheap measurement, Otterly is purpose-built for that.

Self-serve tiers track three platforms (ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews); Enterprise tracks all 10. Daily prompts scale from 50 on Starter to 200 on Growth. Our conflict-free anchor review classifies Writesonic as content-first, calling its AI-visibility suite the most interesting part of the product but still maturing, and says the platform can feel spread too thin (reviewmytools, 7 May 2026). Self-serve plans track three AI platforms and Enterprise tracks all ten, so the suite is real but younger than a dedicated tracker. It fits teams that want to write and fix content for AI search and keep a visibility view in one tool.

10. GaugeAction-oriented newcomer · synthesis
The action-oriented newcomer. Gauge pairs AI-mention monitoring with a content engine that drafts material aimed at AI answers, going beyond Otterly's measurement-only approach. It is newer and less independently tested than the tools above, with a starter tier around $99 a month and a $599 growth tier.
Pricing. Starter from $99/mo, Growth $599/mo (600 prompts a day across the major models, plus 18 articles a month from its content engine), Enterprise custom. Gauge advertises a 3x to 5x visibility uplift within 30 days, which is a vendor claim we do not verify. (withgauge.com, read 27 August 2026).
What the evidence says. We have not reviewed Gauge in depth; this entry draws on two independent comparison publishers that place it in the action-oriented camp, monitoring paired with a content engine rather than measurement alone (Superframeworks, 15 January 2026; Stack Insight, read 27 August 2026). It is newer and less independently tested than the trackers above, and its headline uplift figures are vendor claims.

How we researched this
This is a meta-review. Stack Merit does not test tools hands-on, and we did not test any tool here. We pulled the live top results for "otterly alternatives" and its near variants, collected every tool that credible independent lists treat as a real alternative, and ranked them by fit as an Otterly.ai alternative, from an even cheaper entry to the most enterprise or specialist. We did not rank Otterly itself, because it is the subject of this page. Every entry states its basis. Five picks are backed by our own in-depth reviews and link to them (Peec AI, Profound, AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI and Writesonic). Five are tools we have not reviewed in depth (Rankscale, the Semrush AI Toolkit, Ahrefs Brand Radar, SE Ranking and Gauge); each of those entries says so plainly and names the dated independent sources it draws on.
How we handle conflicted sources. A source counts as independent only after a recorded inspection: whether it sells a competing product, whether its outbound links carry affiliate or tracking parameters, and whether it discloses a relationship. Where a source has its own competing product, or is reader-supported through affiliate links, we disclose that where the source is introduced and exclude that source's own head-to-head comparative claims, using only its factual and general assessments. Three cases matter most here. The one in-depth Profound review, generatemore.ai, sells competing AEO services, so it is disclosed as conflicted and its price and fit comparison is excluded. The one in-depth AthenaHQ reviewer runs a competing free tool of his own, so we use only his general assessment and exclude his head-to-head. And the one in-depth Ahrefs Brand Radar review, from EWR Digital, is an agency that itself sells competing AEO and GEO services, so we exclude it and rank Brand Radar only from two independent roundups. We do not treat an absence of found conflict as proof of independence.
What provisional means. Every reviewed pick here rests on limited independent qualitative sourcing, so those reviews carry a provisional marker and we revisit each when a second independent qualitative review appears. The synthesis picks are marked provisional because they rest on other sites' coverage rather than our own in-depth test.
The blind ranking test. On 28 August 2026 we pulled the live top results for "otterly alternatives" and its variants. As with a few other subjects in this category, the exact-query field had no independent comparison to rank against: every "Otterly alternatives" listicle that actually targets Otterly.ai is published by a competing vendor ranking its own tool first, and we name them, LLM Pulse, Gauge, ZipTie, Orchly, Rankshift, AIclicks, Rankability, ZeroRank, ContentMonk, Writesonic and xSeek. The two non-vendor results were unusable: Toolify is a bot-blocked aggregator, and the AlternativeTo result was a name collision for Otter.ai, the transcription app, not Otterly.ai. So this page is, as far as our pull found, the only conflict-free, transparently sourced "Otterly alternatives" comparison in the field. To still hold ourselves to a bar, we ranked it, branding stripped, against the genuinely independent AI-visibility comparisons that do cover Otterly: Superframeworks (which ranks Otterly first in one guide and names it a flat-rate pick in another), Zapier (which ranks it second, best for affordability), Stack Insight (which gives it a dedicated lightweight-tracking section), and Olostep (which lists it for early GEO adopters and SMBs). Those are broader best-AI-visibility roundups rather than Otterly-specific pages, so it is a looser comparison than a like-for-like test, and we flag that. Against them, our page adds what none provides together: a per-entry basis label, dated pricing pinned to each vendor's own page, a named independent finding behind every pick, honest provisional markers, a full credits section, and an honest account of the budget cluster none of them fully maps. The wider field we did not rank
The field is wider than ten, and the budget tier especially so. A price-sensitive Otterly buyer will cross-shop a cluster of cheap trackers, some at or below Otterly's $29: Trakkr (a free tier, then $100 and up), Airefs (about $24), HyperMind (about $29), Wellows (about $37), LLM Pulse (about $53) and Superlines (about $95), plus Nightwatch, which bolts AI tracking onto classic rank tracking. We name them because a cheapest-entry comparison should not pretend they do not exist, but we do not rank them: every "Otterly alternatives" comparison and every write-up of these tools that we found is published by a competing vendor ranking its own product, so we have no independent coverage to rank them on. Rankscale is the one budget option here with independent coverage, which is why it is ranked and they are not. We do not rank a tool until we can back it with either our own in-depth review or named, dated, independent coverage plus a live price.

It undercuts Otterly's $29 Lite tier, though both are monitoring-first and credit or prompt limits raise the real cost as you scale, so price the exact prompt and engine coverage you need before committing.
Is Writesonic an Otterly.ai alternative?
Not as a like-for-like monitor. Writesonic is a content-first GEO writing tool that now includes a maturing AI-visibility suite, which puts it in a different sub-category from lightweight monitors like Otterly. Consider it if you want to write and fix content for AI search and keep a visibility view in one tool.
